H.265 is the very latest video compression standard. It replaces H.264 which has been around since 2003 and has the following advantages…
Nearly twice the compression of H.264
In plain English that means your CCTV recordings will take up half the hard drive space of a H.264 recording.
As CCTV advances and DVRs such as the ZIP can record in high definition 4K (8MP), the H.265 standard is ready to work with this and can even support 8K ultra high definition.
H.265 handles the video differently (in slices) so it can be processed more efficiently and played on lesser hardware at a watchable pace. H.265 has already been adopted by Netflix 4K probably for this very reason.
